The garden is really taking off now. We are eating lettuce, peas, onions, beets, beet greens, swiss chard, and broccoli now. I planted some more cabbage in hopes of having cabbage for sauerkraut making an a month or two. The tomatoes, potatoes, corn, beans, cucumbers, and squash are getting big and promising us a harvest in the future-now to keep them from the bugs.
I have been out hand picking caterpillars off the cruciferous veggies as well as brushing off the little eggs the white cabbage moth deposits on the leaves. I also noticed that my eggplant has some black beetles on it that I need to deal with before they eat the leaves so much that the eggplant can't produce for us. That would be a crime since we really like Ratatouille when the eggplant and zuccinin are in season.
